So you want Globacom Mobile Internet?
from the Glo website
Step 1:
Requesting for the service
Send a SMS in the following format
Activate<space>wap<space>handset make<space>handset model to '927'
For example; activate wap nokia 7210
An acknowledgement message will be sent back to you.
Alternatively call Customer Care on 121 or walk into any Glo world outlet and request for the glo mobile internet service.
Step 2:
Setting up your handset
You will be sent a SMS containing the configuration settings. Simply save the settings. This will enable you to use the glo mobile internet service.
Please note: It may take up to 24 hours to have your line activated for the glo mobile internet service.
Automatic configuration is handset dependent.
Step 3
You may wish to store some 'bookmarks'. These make it easy for you to access your favorite WAP sites.
How is glo mobile internet charged?
glo mobile internet is charged on the basis of volume of data that you download in terms of Kilobyte. A Kilobyte of Kb is 1024 computer characters such as letters, numbers and symbols. This simply means that as you open up a WAP page, you will be charged for the size of that page.

Great job admin!
Let's hope people read this post before posting the same questions over and over.
The Guy we call "AYA" in Esato.com's Proudly Nigerian forum has more great stuff on this issue on his site http://GoSmartMobile.com.
Including:
Using MTN and Vmobile to browse WAP sites using MTECH' WAP gateway...
http://gosmartmobile.com/mtechdatasettings.shtml
And the elusive Glo Internet Direct settings which is different from the WAP settings:
http://gosmartmobile.com/glodatasettings.shtml
We still need the Glo MMS settings and M-TEL is launching its GPRS package in March 2005!
So, there is still more stuff coming... :-D
AYA's site has a lot of nice information, including a collection of mobile phone reviews mentioned in the mobile phone forum

Please tell me how i could use the glo mobil internet service on my imate. I have seen a previous post in which you say the service is "handset dependent" So where does the imate fall in?
But first of all how do i go about applying for the internet service to begin with.
Thanks
@mdbelgore: What model is your imate?
Call glo for GPRS activation, then send the required SMS to receive settings on your phone. However some phones do not process those settings, meaning it won't work. if that's your case, you can get the settings here: http://gosmartmobile.com/glodatasettings.shtml and put them in your phone manually.
I am not certain if your phone supports WAP, in which case what you need are the WAP settings. If not, you will have to subscribe to GloDirect.

@seun; the form request from their website is no longer active. am getting impatient with this wap thing.

Thanks. I have an imate pda 2k. I am wondering whether there is anyone in Nigeria who has succeeded in getting on the internet to browse or send emails with it or with any other handheld device.
@mdbelgore: You are discussing with one such Nigerian. I have done all that and more on every GSM network (except Mtel). Some of the handheld devices I have used along those lines include: Motorola Accompli 008, Ericsson R380s, and lately Sony Ericsson P800. You may want to visit http://www.gosmartmobile.com to see for yourself ![]()
Did you buy your PDA2K in Nigeria? The specs are great. What's the performance like? Where do you stay? (maybe we can arrange a meeting to see if I can set it up for you).

Does globacom send confirmation that you sim has been activated after configuration or you just test it after 48hrs?

You are supposed to receive an SMS which have the GPRS configuration for your handset. This SMS will have an option for u to save it, which u have to do. After that, u can open your phone's browser to starting browsing the internet. Before I activated Glo wap on my Nokia N-Gage, I made a call to Glo Customer Service, and I got the SMS after 48 hours. That was in the begining.
I have switched over to Siemens S55 now as a result of problem with my former phone. But to get Glo to send the Almighty SMS that contains the GPRS settings is a problem. What I received instead was something a little unreadable, not like the real configuration setttings, and u cannot save it.
This is frustrating. A lot of my colleagues in the office who bought Glo lines with the hope of activating waps had ended up throwing the sims in the dust bins, since Glo failed to send the configuration sms. I tried manually fixing the settings, but it won't work. It seems as if Glo's buffer is full, and is stylishly barring new entrants into its GPRS service. I hope I am not right sha.

@diakim: The S55 (like most Siemens & SE phones) is one of the trickiest to configure. And, yes, it wont load the SMS settings Glo sends.
If you are anywhere near Ojodu in Lagos, I could be of help in configuring that for you. My wife uses an S55 and I browse with Glo on it after manually putting the settings in.
@angel: Have you activated the Glo WAP profile in your phone and attempted browsing? Forget that Vodaphone thing; wont do any good.
