Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

Vmobile WAP
I got a message through my friend, that Vmobile is now offering WAP on its network and he gave me all the infomation, in which I followed, that you have to text your phone name and model to 184 (i.e Nokia 6310i) and you get the OTA (Over the Air configuration), but to my surprise, the response I got was that this "Model make required default" then I have to called the customer care to complain, the response I got was that I should visit their site, in which I did, after the manual configuration, I tried to launch the internet, and the THING load for about two minutes, yet nothing showed up. The next thing I saw was 1.57min call ended. Before I know what was happening, N120 has been deducted from my account. Though I have mailed them, but I haven't get any response.

See me see WAP from Vmobile

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

Welcome back from your leave of absence! The V-mobile WAP service is branded "Vactive", and it was first mentioned by Patricia here.  Thanks for posting about your experience.  Based on what you've just shared, Vmobile's WAP service is probably even more expensive than the service that has been available through MTECH for a while.  You appear to have been billed at a rate higher than normal call charges!

Bad, bad, bad. sad

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

I was more fortunate when I attempted it. The thing did not even connect at all, so I lost NOTHING. I however visited the Vactive WAP portal via Glo. Not bad, but nothing very exciting either.

The WAP url for Vactive is: http://wap.vmobile4me.com

You can view it with any of the free web-based Wap Emulators.

Official website for Vmobile Vactive:   http://www.vmobile-nigeria.com/vactive.htm

First discussed on a thread by patricia.

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

Yes, this is the responce I got from Vmobile, I called the first night and one Ijeoma spoke with me and she said she cant figure out what went wrong, and that I should call back for more info, which I did early this morning around 2am, and one Seun again try to explain thing bit by bit. He said my phone (Sendo SV663) is not among the phone presently on their site, that is the reason why I cannot receive the signal, and I asked him of the crasy bill, he said I would be billed, cos am making use of the dial-up number. I ask him of their billing as per the WAP, he said the billing is the same with the normal call (i.e. 80k p/s) and any downloading (i.e. ringtone, screensaver etc)  costs N100.00 per download. And he advice me to wait till my phone will be among or better still, get another phone.

Hello forum, advice me on what to do next. You can PM me if you dont feel like posting it. Thanks

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

I finally got it to work yesterday. Browsed the esato WAPsite on my wife's Vmobile line. It was okay for a CSD connection, but nothing beats Glo GPRS right now. Nothing.

@shallar: customer care are lying about your hsndset not on their list. The real meaning of that is that they have absolutely no idea how to configure it to work sad People have been told that on MTN and Glo as well, and I successfully configured their phones for them. Technically ignorant bunch of people in most customer care departments mad

You could PM me if interested in having it done for a small fee smile

@mamba: smile Ijebu Still looking for that cheaper alternative to Glo GPRS WAP!

Apologies to all Egbas, my madam inclusive big_smile

But it does not look like  your redemption will be found with Vmobile. The current tariff for Vactive are a no-no, and it looks like Voffice is being targeted at corporate (read Contract) users

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

That's really bad of Vmobile. seems glo's still the best bet.
I'm now considering glodirect and would be glad to have any information about it.
Maybe Mtel will be our savior.

@mamba: I would not count on Mtel if I was you... The tariff may be lower, but what about the Mtel reputation for low Quality Of Service? You may have to contend with that.

But then God uses the weak things of this world to confound the strong smile

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

@lucky: I have used it consistently, and it works well. My wife is on V and I pick up her phone every now and then for some fun.

There's not been once it failed to connect or I was billed without browsing.

You may need to look at your settings again. At times, its just one little slip that creates the scenario you have experienced.

But again, it could be that the settings are correct and V is messing you up.

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

You are correct AYA, it cld be the settings, I had a difficult time connecting on my Sharp TM 100 phone as well, it just wouldnt work even with manual configuration, but when I tried my sister's Nokia 6600 twas a different story, I got the connection on their website and even downloaded 4 ringtones on my phone and all I got billed for was the time I spent connecting ... 4mins.

Lets hope it stays like that or was I just lucky?

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

@GP: I don't think luck had anything to do with it smile My wife's line is yet to be over-billed once since I've been playing with Vative on it.

Some phones are harder to configure than others. Usually, the problem will be from one insignificant-looking menu option that no-one paid attention to.

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

I make use of my friend phone to download the OTA configuration, and in no time we received the config. Saved it and started downloading in no time. The phone is Nokia 6600, I think is only Nokia tthat works with Vactive. I have tried all my possible best to connect my Sendo SV663. All is Zero.

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

@luckyjulius: What port did you set your phone to? I tried port 8080 for WAP 2.0 today and it did not work when I tried it - and I got billed! Near wiped out N200 of my wife's airtime. When I switched back to port 9201 for WAP 1.2, no problems as before.

@lekanhood: What phone do you use? Games come in different formats: symbian, java, mophun and others.

For java games, browse to http://midlet.org/wap/index.jsp and find those compatible with your device. I have a list of links for games and other downloads at http://gosmartmobile.com/downloads.shtml so you may also want to take a look.

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

AYA, I was able to use WAP 2.0 on a Nokia phone which did not allow me to choose the WAP port.  I was able to browse with WAP 2.0 on Vactive (Is Vactive the name of the portal or the service?).  If your phone does not support WAP 2.0 it won't work.

Shallar1, keep trying with the Sendo phone!  You need to understand the manual settings and apply them to your phone.

1. Phones that do not present you with an option automatically select a port that works, which in this case is 9201.
2. The phone I used supports 2.0. I was actually testing out some modifications I made to GoSmartMobile. Even though I used the 1.2 port for the connection, it loaded my WAP 2.0/XHTML page fine.

When I tried port 8080 (supposedly 2.0), it burnt my money then told me "Server not responding".

Vmobile should simply delete the option of port 8080 and stop burning people's airtime.

Re: Vmobile WAP: My First Experience (lost 120 naira)

hi! i just heard about this and it looks like a good way to share knowledge and experiences. Lekanhood, what type of handset do you use? i must say that Seun and AYA are extremely knowledgeable in this field as most of their responses are accurate. i understand that Vmobile does not charge you when you connect to their Vactive site but you will be charged if you download any content or if you browse another site using your connection. i also understand that, at the moment Vmobile is not offering GPRS but CSD connection. from what i know, a CSD connection may take longer but not so that it would be noticeable however various factors come into play e.g. network congestion, location, anyhthing that may affect a normal call from being made (since CSD is actually a voice channel used to transfer data)
