I browse WAP regularly using a WAP emulator, because the next incarnation of this forum will have support for WAP and WAP 2.0!
I promised to unveil it this week Monday but once again we are behind schedule. This is called the Nigerian factor.
I have also used WAP on a Vmobile line. By the way, I think Vmobile's branding/packaging of their WAP service is awful. They seem to want to make the GPRS service a premium service for 'Office' users, even though it's cheaper. How could they think that people like me, shallar1, of coolapostle would want to browse WAP sites at the rate of 80 kobo per second????

@seun: If vmobile restricts GPRS to high networth subscribers as it seems they want to, it will amount to shooting themselves in the foot.
Your making Mobile Nigeria WAP-compatible is a move in the right direction. Hurry up!
OK; we've gone off-topic enough. WAP surfers, please post to say so.

I've used wap regularly on glo and ocationally on mtn, i'm just waiting for vmobile or Mtel to commence their Gprs so I can have a cheaper alternative to glo's exorbitant 70k/kb charges.

Why do you think Vmobile's GPRS service will be cheaper? All the GSM companies charge virtually the same for their services! Only the PTO's have cheaper prices in general.
Offline
There is a chance that Mtel's GPRS service will be cheaper.
However, at least 2 PTOs now offer internet access on some of their mobiles. They've even got smartphones. You may want to consider that option, but it may not necessarily be cost-effective.
Whether you use the internet access or not, you pay a flat monthly rate. At least on Glo, you pay for only what you use.

Have you consideed GloDirect on Post-Paid? Its the best of 3 worlds - dirt cheap call tariffs, ultra-low SMS charges, and superb GPRS charges. It's like heaven, really - and now you can use recharge cards to load airtime! Nope; its the best of 4 worlds ![]()

Then last week, Multi-links announced a Kyocera smartphone that allows you to browse the web and access your mails on the move!! Exactly up my alley. In addition, you can also connect to the Internet via your PC/laptop.

This would be the best mobile Internet service by far, if made available today. Do you have any more information? I think I saw a related ad in the papers recently.

It does look great. Multi-links mobile internet charges are same as landline. The only gripe I have is tht the Kyocera smartphone is an older model as it runs Palm OS version 4.1 (current line up of palm devices run 5.2)! But I like the fact that it has both keypad and a grafiti area.
Reltel offers a mobile internet plan too with a Pocket PC device. I saw the thing at e-NNOVATE.

Thanks for the information but what's the meaning of
Usage Bands Discount glo - glo glo - other networks
0 - N5,000 40k 50k
N5,001 – N10,000 8% 37k 46k
N10,001 & above 12% 35k 44k
Offline
@mamba:
It means for example that when you make calls up to 5k in a month, your call rates become 37kps & 46kps for glo-glo & glo-others respectively. When you cross 10k, it further reduces to 35kps & 44kps respectively etc etc
