If anyone has the time on Monday 21st & Tuesday 22nd of March, Naija's 1st value-added expo, e-NNOVATE 2005, is holding at the MUSON CENTRE. Here's the marketing pitch:
"WORK better | PLAY harder | ENJOY life
"Make money. Move your office with you wherever you go. Access your bank account while on the move. Transact business wherever you are. Access a million and one opportunities.
"Come discover how technology can so cheaply help to add value to your life"
For over 2 years, I have crusaded for people & businesses to take advantage of mobile data. I have been looked upon as a madman even after I implemented it for myself and had much fruit to show for it. Very few paid any attention to the potentials of this new technologies.
But finally, it seems that people are waking up - that's what this expo is about. I'll be there. You can get more details & be updated at http://gosmartmobile.com

No; it isn't. I expected that e-tranzact would participate in a value-added expo like that, but nope, they didn't.

AYA, please tell us what happened at the expo. Feel free to post your first-hand account, including pictures/video, on this site. I couldn't attend.

e-NNOVATE underwhelmed me. Saw little to talk about.
Mtel who have been shouting about laaunching GPRS by late March have shifted it to April. They could not even give a demo of the thing. The mobile base station they brought to MUSON seemed to have developed a mind of its own.... aargh! Na wa!

@AYA do u know if wema bank is on e-tranzacts' registered banks list?

@motla: Its been quite a while I checked up on e-tranzact last. I think their website is http://etranzact.net or e-tranzact.net. Try .com if the above are not correct.

So MTel didn't showcase GPRS??????????
What did Clixthus showcase?

@coola: My brother, I wonder o! They talked, had a stand, gave out T-shirts, did everything under the sun but the very thing most participants went to see. Nope, no action on GPRS. Mtel signal - like Glo's - was so poor on location you almost couldn't get a call through without having to take a walk (mamba, are you listening?).
I expected Reltel to demonstrate their mobile internet, but they just put those phones & the Pocket PC smartphone on the desk and gazed at us ![]()
SaveMyContacts tried to make me buy an MTN line just so I could use their service. But did they demonstrate? To the best of my knowledge, no.
I spoke with an official at the Accelon/Atmospace stand, and he was telling me that all PDAs come with built-in Wi-fi features!! Without thinking, I can reel off a list of PDAs that do NOT have Wi-fi built-in. I stood my ground and he finally admitted that he was wrong. Do they train these guys? Or was he just being an overzealous salesman?
In summary, Monday was gab day. Tuesday was the funeral: the order of a graveyard.
Frankly, I don't think it was Calixthus' fault. He did look rather disappointed himself.
Those exhibiting companies just didn't seem to have their wits together.

Menn, this is really bad. I was placing all my hopes on Mtel Gprs.
Well, I still believe in Mtel and I know they'll come out with the cheapest price whenever...

Mamba, have you considered Quality of Service (QOS)? So far, Mtel has the worst in the country. Cost is not everything, you know.
Everyone wants to own a car, but it costs more to maintain a car than it costs hopping around on bikes and in buses.
I can tell you from experience that pricing is not everything. And if you really need lower costs, migrate to GloDirect/Post-Paid. Or get a CDMA set. My two-kobo.

CDMA set, definitely. The new Reltel Pocket PC phone is what I'll be looking at when next I have money.

e-nnovate expo is really about value added services and its not a forum to measure performances of networks. Its all about how subsribers can harness oppurtunities that exist being a mobile subscriber. The public should understand that its a maiden edition and things can only get better.
Aya,savemycontacts dont and will not sell you an MTN pack so that you can subscribe to the wireless phone back up services! Presently it works with Mtn and Vmobile but plans are underway too to have other networks offering this value added service.

Here's what I said: "SaveMyContacts tried to make me buy an MTN line just so I could use their service". You can check my post again.
I did not say that they tried to sell me one. The pretty lady spent the better part of 10 minutes attempting to convince me to by an MTN line as standby so I can use the SaveMyContacts service. This was after I told her I was on Glo and knew specifically that the service was not available on glo at the time (and till date).
