NCC says 'Only Vmobile And MTN Interconnect Well'

Okechukwu Kanu, Lagos, reports:

"A Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Private Inquiry into the reasons for the poor Quality of Service being provided by the GSM operators, has found that reasonable interconnection arrangement only exist between Vmobile and MTN of all the four GSM operators.

"The NCC has thus directed that the Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Limited (M-tel), interconnect with Vmobile withing 21 days from the date of Direction.

I think, as a current non-paying MTN subscriber, that I've noticed the effect this 'special relationship' between MTN and Vmobile.  Calls go through easily, SMS is delivered smoothly.  Perhaps I am imagining things.  I do know that sometime last year I performed an experiment and discovered that MTN is the only network that delivers SMS without problems to the four others.  Most ironic was the discovery that MTEL subscribers could receive SMS messages with no stress from MTN but not the other way round!

What do you think?  Any insider tips?

Re: NCC says 'Only Vmobile And MTN Interconnect Well'

My calls and SMS to MTN and Vmobile from my glo line go at one dial, and people on those networks reach me without hassles as well. NCC must know something the rest of us do not know, but I would have thought that the ultimate test of interconnectivity is how easily subscribers reach themselves across networks.

In other words, I cannot identify with NCC's position on that. Mtel seems to have a problem peculiar to itself, and my opinion is that most of Mtel's problems will remain unsolved unless and untill it is sold off by government (how can every other GSM network be making money and smiling to the bank, yet Mtel is in a financial mess?)

Hi,
Does any one know process involved in getting NCC license in orderto be eligible to act as Mobile phone  rechargecards dealers?
Any costs involved?
Thanks.

Re: NCC says 'Only Vmobile And MTN Interconnect Well'

I agree that calls go smoothly from Vmobile to MTN and vice versa, but these past weeks, I have had a rethink on the sms part. I so find it hard to send an sms to my mtn friends especially the ones far away. My phone gives me delievery reports, when the msg eventually gets to the recipient, but for say 6 weeks i have been trying to send an sms to a friend in Ilorin and another also in Aba, but delievery always fails.

I also got to confirm from my brother and a couple of other pps too, that some of his msgs to MTN numbers have not been getting to the recipients.

Dont know wat is really going on.
